The service call is an HVAC technician's moment to shine. It's the one-on-one with the customer that's keeping the business and industry afloat. So why not give the customer your best?
Here are my basic tips for technicians on-the-job:
Set a time and stick to it
Schedule service calls at specific times and be there when you say you're going to be there. Some companies will just give customers a set of hours in which they'll arrive, but for many people, this is inconvenient. There's nothing more irritating to customers than having to wait, especially when a technician is late. Time is money, and lack of timeliness could cost your HVAC business money.
Be respectful of property
You may have been repairing and servicing HVAC systems for years on end and be well-versed in your technique, but it's important to remember that you're dealing with a customer's private property. Be cautious respectful of your surroundings, and use care when handling products.
Know necessary repairs
When you get to the service call, know exactly what you'll be doing at a customer's home or business. Beyond that, know when to recognize problems and solutions. This saves the customer time and builds in an easy sale opportunity for the technician.
Quickly recognizing problems comes with practice and training [JK4] . Make sure that you have all needed certifications, and proper yearly training on and off the job.
